The 2003 Taiwan International Digital Animation and Game Design Conference

Kevin Geiger speaking on "The Making of 'Henry's Garden'" at the conference hall.

In addition to the "Henry's Garden" presentation, I also gave a session on the idiosyncrasies of the Hollywood special effects and animation industry.

Q&A.

Candice and Allan: my guides, translators and comic relief.

Photo ops with some of the conference attendees.

My hosts, from Taiwan's National Center for High-performance Computing.

Dinner that evening with a group of conference presenters, hosts and volunteers.

Renny (our host), Diane and myself with James Wang, founder of Wang Film: a traditional animation studio in Taipei which has recently begun making the transition to CGI. Mr. Wang has been in the animation business for decades, and spent time working in the States with many old Disney hands. Disney and other U.S. animation companies frequently contract work with Wang Film.

Next stop: Digimax, Taiwan's premier digital animation studio. Vice President Tien-Tsung Ma took us on a tour of the contemporary facilities, which featured a full digital production studio, blue screen and motion capture stage, post production and DVD authoring suites, etc. Like James Wang, Mr. Ma also came with Disney credentials, in the form of previous consultation gigs with Disney Cruise Lines and the Theatrical Division.
